1941 Born on April 21st, 1941 in Innsbruck, Austria.

1960-1966 Studies of Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry and Philosphy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt/M

1966 PhD, theme of dissertation:
Dissociation and reaggregation of epidermal cells of Xenopus laevis larvae in vitro". Supervisor: Prof. Dr. W. Kuhl. (Zoology)

1967-1972 Assistant at the Institute for Cinematic Cell Research in Frankfurt.

1972 Habilitation. Thesis: "Light and electron microscope studies on the function of tonofilaments in epidermal cells of fish.

1972 Appointment as a professor at the University of Frankfurt/M., senior scientist of the "Cinematic Cell Research Group"

1973 Research fellow at the Johnson Research Foundation, Philadelphia, in the Institute of Prof. Dr. Britton Chance.

1978 Research fellow at the Papanicolaou Cancer Research Institute in Miami (with Dr. E. Kohen).

2 months at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm (Prof. Dr. B. Thorell)

1985 Dean of the Biological Faculty

1993/ 94 Chairman of the newly founded Biozentrum of the J.W.Goethe University in Frankfurt.

1994-2000 Chairman of the Konvent of the JWG-University.

2003- Vice president of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University

More than 200 scientific publications in cell biology mainly on cytoplasmic motility, intracellular behaviour of organelles and fine structure of epidermis cells.
Author of 3 educational films and co-editor of video discs and a series of CD-ROMs (Die Zelle) for teaching cell biology.
Co-editor of a 2 volume book on the "Biology of the Integument"
of a volume on "Cytomechanics"
of a volume on "Tissue culture models in Dermatological Research."
