Historical Stratification, Language Contact & Social Networks

The main purpose of this joint research project is to contribute to the general understanding of language change and the outcomes of language contact in a complex multilingual setting. This investigation is a fine-grained study of a presumably long-standing language contact situation in Africa within the area in the northwest of Burkina Faso and adjacent areas in Mali.

This research project is funded by the DFG and conducted by members of the Institute of African and Asian studies, Humboldt University Berlin and the Institute of African Linguistics, Goethe-University Frankfurt.
